چکیده

The optical frequency doubling properties of silver, copper, and platinum nanoparticles in aqueous solution are studied via hyper-Rayleigh scattering (HRS) spectroscopy. Substantial HRS responses are observed for silver and copper particles. The response is attributed to enhancement due to resonance of the nonlinearly scattered light with the particles’ surface plasmon absorption band. Platinum particles, which lack visible-region plasmon absorption, do not display detectable HRS signals. The largest signals from silver particles are observed under conditions of two-photon resonance, qualitatively consistent with the predictions of available theory; smaller yet still impressive signals are observed under preand post-resonant conditions. 2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.

Hyper-rayleigh Scattering and Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering Studies of Platinum Nanoparticle Suspensions

Platinum nanoparticles (ptNPs) in the water are synthesized by nanosecond pulsed laser ablation of a pure platinum plate in the distilled water. Using hyper-Rayleigh scattering (HRS) spectroscopy is observed considerable HRS responses. Pt nanoparticles do not have visible-region plasmon absorption, do not represent clear HRS signals, whereas surprisingly, they exhibit strong surface-enhanced Ra...

Experimental observation of stimulated low-frequency Raman scattering in water suspensions of silver and gold nanoparticles.

In this Letter we report on experimental observation of stimulated low-frequency Raman scattering (SLFRS) in gold and silver nanoparticle suspensions excited by 20 ns ruby laser pulses, SLFRS propagated in forward and backward directions with a maximum conversion efficiency up to 20%. Frequency shift for silver nanoparticle suspension was found to be 0.33 THz and for gold nanoparticle suspensio...

Nonlinear optical properties of triangular silver nanomaterials

Size-controlled synthesis of metal nanostructures has opened many new possibilities to design ideal building blocks for future nanodevices. By solution-based method, silver triangular nanoprisms of different sizes (edge length) have been synthesized. First hyper-polarizabilities of silver triangular nanomaterials were measured using hyper-Rayleigh scattering technique. We have shown that both l...

Synthesis, linear extinction, and preliminary resonant hyper-Rayleigh scattering studies of gold-core/silver-shell nanoparticles: comparisons of theory and experiment

Gold-core/silver-shell nanoparticles featuring core diameters of 13 or 25 nm were prepared in aqueous solution. Silver-coated gold nanoparticles have two distinct plasmon absorption bands whose relative intensities depend on the shell thickness – features that are captured well by classical Mie theory. The core/shell spectra are not simply linear combinations of the pure-component spectra. Theo...

Nonlinear Responses and Optical Limiting Behavior of Ag Nanoparticle Suspension

In this study, the nonlinear optical properties and optical limiting performance of the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in distilled water are investigated. The nonlinear absorption coefficient of the colloid is measured by the Z-scan technique. The optical limiting behavior of the AgNP suspension is investigated under exposure to nanosecond laser pulses at 532 nm. The results show that nonlinear ...
